When my name was mentioned, I honestly had to switch gears for a moment.
Is it me? Wow ... I was not expecting this at all.
Bukser Jeans was named winner of the OKW Award - Young Talent category. A moment that came in. Not because we don't know what we are building, but because this recognition comes from close by.
Recognition that feels different
Nationally, we get a lot of feedback. Through reviews, personal emails and responses from customers across the country. That's valuable and affirming.
But this award feels different.
It is recognition from entrepreneurs from Woerden. People who know what entrepreneurship means. Who understand what it takes to build something from scratch.
For me, born and raised in Woerden, that makes this award extra special.
The OKW is a serious business association with experienced entrepreneurs. For them to express their appreciation for Bukser and for me as an entrepreneur feels like a great compliment.
Why Bukser Jeans won
The jury judged not only on growth, but especially on entrepreneurship.
The central question was: what are you doing differently from other jeans brands, and what are you really changing in the market?
Bukser has been different from the beginning.
Where many jeans brands choose tough, raw and casual, we deliberately build something different: elegant, personal and businesslike.
Jeans that fit entrepreneurs and professionals.
For the workday, the boardroom and everything after.
That requires focus and guts and exactly those choices were appreciated.
The conversation on stage
The conversation with Jort Kelder as host touched exactly the core of entrepreneurship. Sharp, quick and substantive.
It was about my entrepreneurial journey, the product and the choices we make.
One question that lingered was, "Are you sticking with pants?"
My answer was clear: yes. The market is big enough and focus is more important than broadening for the sake of broadening.
In the coming years we will continue to build Bukser Jeans, focusing on new fits. For example, we are working on variants that are also suitable for the more burly muscular man, an answer that caused applause and laughter in the room.
Where Bukser stands now
Bukser is currently growing fast.
That is great to see, but also brings luxury challenges, such as inventory. Behind the scenes, people are working very hard on that every day.
What is particularly striking is that we have become seriously visible in the market.
And that does not go unnoticed.
So this award does not feel like an end point, but as confirmation.
That the course is right. That focus pays off. And that our way of doing business is seen.
Proudly, with both feet on the ground
The OKW Award is not a reason to sit back.
It is, however, a moment to pause for a moment.
Proud of the brand.
Proud of the growth.
And proud of the journey, from first idea to where Bukser is today.
This award feels like recognition for a different way of doing business.
And that is exactly what we are building on.
