For starters, we suggest washing a pair of jeans as little as possible; the less you wash the jeans, the longer they will stay good. For example, only really wash a pair of jeans if they have stains on them or if you have a pair of jeans very run down. This is to preserve the quality of the fabric. After wearing the jeans, hang them outside or on a hanger in the bathroom. So that the jeans get a "steam treatment''.
Remember this before washing
Proper preparation makes a lot of difference in how your jeans stay looking. Pay attention to the following steps:
- Empty all pockets to avoid damage or stains from objects.
- Turn your jeans inside out to reduce color loss and wear on the outside.
- Close zipper and buttons so that the pants keep their shape and do not damage in the drum.
- Wash your jeans with similar colors, preferably together with darker garments.
How do you wash jeans the right way?
It is important to wash your jeans the right way to preserve fabric and color. At Bukser, we use the following washing instructions for proper washing:
- Turn the jeans inside out
- Wash the jeans cold or at least 30 degrees maximum
- Wash the jeans with other jeans or wash the jeans separately.
- Little to no detergent (too much detergent can damage the fibers, causing them to wear out faster and the color to deteriorate).
Also be careful when spinning on high rpm, this will put unnecessary strain on the fabric or prevent it from shrinking. Because Bukser Jeans is a stretch denim it is best to spin the jeans from 700 to 900 rpm otherwise there is a chance that the stretch fibers will tear.
Drying of your jeans
Do not put your (Bukser) jeans in the dryer, even if it is written on a washing label or they say it can be done. It is best to just hang the jeans on the clothesline or let them dry outdoors so that the jeans fibers are not stretched. Preferably not in full sun as direct sunlight can cause discoloration.
Remove wrinkles
Should the jeans be wrinkled and you want to iron it do it inside out. Actually, you don't need to iron because most of the time you will walk the creases out anyway.
How often should you wash jeans?
The rule of thumb when washing jeans is to do it as little as possible. If your jeans are not visibly dirty or starting to give off unpleasant odors, there is no need to wash them. Generally, it is recommended to wash jeans after about 10 to 15 wearings, depending on how heavily you use them.
Freshen jeans without washing
If you still want to keep your jeans fresh without washing them, there are a few tricks to freshen them up, we recommend airing your jeans in a fresh place outdoors to neutralize odor.
Some claim that the freezer helps kill bacteria and freshen up your jeans. However, this effect is temporary, as bacteria continue to multiply after thawing and thus the odor comes back and gets worse.
